I've always been a huge fan of Harlan Cohen and I seem to fly through all of his books。 I Will Find You is one of my favorite Harlan Cohen books。 I read it in 1 day and am still thinking about it。 Wow! Imagine you're an innocent man in prison because you were found guilty of killing your 3 year old son。 That's the predicament that David Burroughs finds himself in。 He's been locked up for 5 years and he feels like he deserves to be in prison for life because he wasn't able to protect his beautifu I've always been a huge fan of Harlan Cohen and I seem to fly through all of his books。 I Will Find You is one of my favorite Harlan Cohen books。 I read it in 1 day and am still thinking about it。 Wow! Imagine you're an innocent man in prison because you were found guilty of killing your 3 year old son。 That's the predicament that David Burroughs finds himself in。 He's been locked up for 5 years and he feels like he deserves to be in prison for life because he wasn't able to protect his beautiful son。 David was drunk the night of Matthew's murder and everyone says he blacked out and beat his son to death with a baseball bat。 The baseball bat was found buried behind his house in a wooded area。 David's wife, Cheryl, wasn't home when the murder occurred。 She's a transplant surgeon and was at a conference out of town。David and Cheryl's marriage had been rocky even before this tragedy。 David and Cheryl had originally wanted to have 4 kids, but once they started trying they weren't having any success。 David found out he had a low sperm count and eventually had surgery which solved the problem。 In the years before David's surgery, Cheryl had grown impatient and gone to a fertility clinic。 She thought she could get pregnant from a sperm donor and convince David that it was his child。 Cheryl's sister, Rachel, helped her by using her name at the clinic instead of Cheryl's。 When Cheryl got pregnant after David's surgery she wasn't sure if it was his or the sperm donor。 Cheryl thought the boy was definitely David's once he was born。 After David's trial where he's found guilty, he and Cheryl get divorced。 David wants to be punished for letting someone kill Matthew。 David's Aunt Sophie lives with his father and is his father's caregiver。 David's father is not well and she takes care of him。 Aunt Sophie helped raise David as his mother died when he was a young boy。 Aunt Sophie never gave up on David and always knew he was innocent。 David's father was a retired policeman and thought he was innocent until evidence at trial seemed irrefutable。 David's neighbor, an older woman, testified that she had seen David burying the baseball bat in the wooded area behind his house。 She seemed sure of what she had seen and that lead to the guilty conviction。 David had no visitors since he'd been in prison。 He refused to see anyone and had signed a document stating that he refused to see any visitors。 That's why David is shocked when one of the guards comes to his cell and says he has a visitor。 David says that's impossible as he has signed that form。 The guard informed him that he had to do that every year and he had only done it his first year in prison。 David asks who the visitor is, but the guard doesn't know。 After cuffing David, he leads him to the visitation area where he sits in a chair and talks to the visitor with a phone as they're separated by plexiglass。 He's surprised when he sees Rachel come into the room and pick up the phone。 David and Rachel were always close since he had dated her sister since high school。 The timing of the visit seems weird though。 Why would she come after 5 years? As Rachel picks up the phone, she is shocked at how David looks。 He's lost a lot of weight and looks like he's been in a lot of fights。 His face looks different and he has a lot less hair。 They start chatting and eventually Rachel gets to why she's come。 Rachel explains that a friend of hers went to an amusement park with her family and was showing her some of the photos。 Rachel took a picture of one particular photo with her cellphone。 She has printed it out to show David。 Rachel holds the photo up to the plexiglass so that David can see it。 He looks at her friend and her family, but he doesn't see anything interesting。 Rachel says look again and look closely。 All of a sudden, David's eyes get wide and his body goes stiff。 Behind her friend's family, there is a boy that is approximately 8 years old and is the spitting image of Matthew, David's son that was killed 5 years ago。 Matthew had a red birthmark on his cheek that was quite large and this boy has the same birthmark。 Rachel thinks the boy is Matthew also and that's why she had to visit David。 Rachel hasn't told her sister Cheryl as Cheryl is remarried to Ronald and is expecting their first child。 David has many questions and feels like his life has just been renewed, but there's one problem, he's in prison for life! David must find a way to get out of prison now more than ever。 Rachel takes notes and says she will do some investigating before she returns the next day。 David wants to know why the old woman neighbor would've lied。 It's imperative that they track her down and speak to her。 Rachel has many contacts from her days as an investigative reporter, including a good one with the FBI。 She plans on finding out as much as she can before she comes back。 Meanwhile, someone behind the scenes is paying a guard to give them information on anything related to David。 You literally can't put this book down as the more you read, the more you have to know! Will David be able to break out of prison to find his son? Will Rachel's contacts come through with information? How will they track down Matthew when all they know is he was at an amusement park? Is the boy really Matthew? Was David set up? Who would want to hurt David like this? If the 3 year old boy that was killed wasn't Matthew, who was it? Who killed the boy? Why would an old woman lie on the stand and send an innocent man to prison? Why did that old woman move right after the trial ended and change her name? I Will Find You is one of the best books I've read this year and you need to read it as soon as it comes out on March 14! I rate the book 5 stars and give it my absolute top recommendation。 I'd like to thank NetGalley and Grand Central Publishing for an advanced copy of I Will Find You in exchange for a fair review。 #IWillFindYou 。。。more

As with many of Harlan Coben books, the story can be a little far-fetched but he always tells it well。 The story is fast paced and David is well portrayed and a likeable character。 He is considered the low of the low, as a child killer, in the prison itself by prisoners and guards alike。 He is pitied by his family。I was not convinced or keen on the FBI characters, Max and Sarah。 Their double act grated and did not contribute to the story。Many thanks to Netgalley/Harlan Coben/Random House UK for As with many of Harlan Coben books, the story can be a little far-fetched but he always tells it well。 The story is fast paced and David is well portrayed and a likeable character。 He is considered the low of the low, as a child killer, in the prison itself by prisoners and guards alike。 He is pitied by his family。I was not convinced or keen on the FBI characters, Max and Sarah。 Their double act grated and did not contribute to the story。Many thanks to Netgalley/Harlan Coben/Random House UK for a digital copy of this title。 All opinions expressed are my own。 。。。more

It is startling what the human mind can justify。 We all live via self-justification and self-rationalization。 For 5 years David Burroughs believed he killed his son。 He doesn't remember that night but the evidence against him was strong。 With his wife remarried, he accepts that he is prison until his sister-in-law Rachel comes to visit him。 She shows a picture of friends and in the background is a picture of his son。 Everything changes for him。 He has hope and he knows he needs to find his son。 It is startling what the human mind can justify。 We all live via self-justification and self-rationalization。 For 5 years David Burroughs believed he killed his son。 He doesn't remember that night but the evidence against him was strong。 With his wife remarried, he accepts that he is prison until his sister-in-law Rachel comes to visit him。 She shows a picture of friends and in the background is a picture of his son。 Everything changes for him。 He has hope and he knows he needs to find his son。 The question becomes what child was in his son's bed and why。This is action packed from early on。 David's recollection of that terrible night, the evidence against him, how prison changed him and how Rachel helped to find his son。 It becomes what a father will do for his son。 How far he will go。 What he finds out changes everything。Coben is a master of the following the thread! And then we learn that a potential witness may have lied and I wondered why David wouldn't have challenged their testimony more at the time given he tells us he didn't do it。 Even if he was accepting his fate, why wouldn't he wonder why a neighbour blatantly lied?Having said that, this is still a great thriller as David and his sister-in-law race against time (well David's recapture and Rachel's arrest for assisting him), all the while not knowing if Matthew is alive or if they've sacrificed their freedom for nothing。3。5 starsRead my review here: https://www。debbish。com/books-literat。。。 。。。more

The evidence at David’s trial had been compelling, The dead boy had been beaten to death, his head an unrecognisable pulp, in Matthew’s bed, wearing his pyjamas, in the room next to that in which David had been sleeping off another drunken evening。 The murder weapon was David’s baseball bat, which a witness had seen him bury in the nearby woods。 It was considered likely that David had had a blackout followed by amnesia, but that mitigation could not dilute the crime and the life sentence it carried。 The boy’s image had been spotted by David’s sister in law, Rachel, in the background of a friend’s photograph so there was no way of identifying him。 In order to investigate, David manages, with help, to escape from prison。 Teamed up with Rachel, a journalist, he begins to traverse the North East USA, from Maine to New York and New Jersey, searching for answers to the most worrying question: If Matthew is alive who took him and then organised the evidence to point to him? Chasing him are a pair of laconic, even comedic, FBI agents, Max and Sarah, dedicated to finding him and arresting him, but also intrigued by his motive。 After all people who escape from prison try as hard as possible to slip beneath the radar and flee the jurisdiction, whereas David is popping up all over the area。This is a fairly standard police chase story – man on the run followed by dedicated officers。 However, it is not conventional in its plot。 The initial premise is unusual, the chase is complicated by his erratic movements, and the people he talks to, directly or indirectly, who ‘direct’ those movements; elderly widows, old friends, criminal masterminds, international multimillionaires 。 。 。 The story is also brightened by Max and Sarah, a great invention that I wouldn’t mind seeing again。 Coben is, of course, a highly experienced writer, and the style and pace of the story pulls you along at such a rate that you have little opportunity to spot and wonder about the outrageous (in the sense of both “far-fetched” and “flamboyant”) plot twists and turns。 A thoroughly entertaining romp。 I would like to thank NetGalley, the publishers and the author for providing me with a draft proof copy for the purpose of this review。 。。。more
Jen Ryland,
Like most Coben books, this was fun, funny, and required a fair amount of suspension of disbelief。 It reminded me of a popular 1990s movie and I wasn't mad about that。Check out my full review of I Will Find You here on Jen Ryland Reviews AND check out my SPOILER REVIEW and DISCUSSION on Jen Ryland Reviews Like most Coben books, this was fun, funny, and required a fair amount of suspension of disbelief。 It reminded me of a popular 1990s movie and I wasn't mad about that。Check out my full review of I Will Find You here on Jen Ryland Reviews AND check out my SPOILER REVIEW and DISCUSSION on Jen Ryland Reviews 。。。more
